#1) Forge Cellars Dry Riesling Classique 2018,
Finger Lakes NY, USA
Yellow apple, jasmine, sleepytime tea with honey, sunflower oil, AOR with a spicy sax solo.
From Southeast Seneca Lake (the largest and deepest of the glacial Finger Lakes) in upstate New York. The Winery is helmed by a French winemaker whose family has run Chateau de St. Cosme (Gigondas) since 1570.
Hand harvested, sorted, and whole cluster pressed. Fermented in both vats and old oak (228 Litre Burgundy barrels and demi-muids) with indigenous yeasts, unfiltered and unfined.
Soil Type: Shale and Clay with Limestone.
#2) A+A Durrmann Alsace Grand Cru Kastelburg 2018,
Lime pith, eating a salty edged green pear at a mountain hot spring, honeycomb, prog-jazz.
From the Grand Cru of Kastelburg, towering above the village of Andlau in the Bas Rhin of Alsace.
This vineyard employs a lyre training system, which is unusual in Alsace and raises the vines from the ground allowing them to access more sunlight. The Durrmann’s also leave the ground unplowed between the vines allowing weeds to grow between, bringing in their sheep to mow between the rows after harvest time. The vine roots get competition from the weeds and are forced to burrow deeper into the ground where they find moisture and nutrients.
Unfiltered, unfined, certified organic.
Vinified in both inox tank and old wooden casks.

#3) Strekov 1075 Rizling 2018,
Nové Zámky, SVK
Stewed apricots, yeasty popcorn, gunpowder, freak folk.
From Nové Zámky, a town in the Nitra region of SouthWestern Slovakia.
Strekov 1075’s vineyards are located on the terraces of Pohronska Pahorkatina, featuring ponds and marshland that creates a unique microclimate. The winemaker Zsolt- avoids pesticides and chemicals, using sprays derived from horsetail, chamomile, and nettle that grow naturally in the area, promoting biodiversity and the propagation of ‘beneficial insects’ which deter harmful pests.
Unfiltered and unfined, with no added sulfur.
Fermented in open topped neutral oak barrels using skin maceration and aging under voile.
